HURRICANE UPDATE 8/28 PMThanks to Gustav, we will be cleaning cages and packing this Sun at our normal Care Day time of 3-6pm and bringing all buns and supplies to the house on Elwick to stay in the house and attached garage for the storm. All vet records have been printed and cage cards have been made for each rabbit, just in case something happens to the house (we are not in a flood zone, but we do have a lot of mature trees). Most of our rabbits are now tattooed with MHR in the ear, but we will be using a sharpie and writing MHR in the ears of those who are not and writing everybun's name and our phone # in their ears also. We have enough spare cages that we are having to set up (the hutches will be staying) so we are fine there, but are requesting anyone coming to bring carriers to borrow if they have them.We have a number of volunteers and friends coming to clean the cages and make the 1.75 mile move with carriers, cages, and supplies, and if anyone else would like to come help (family and friends welcome!), please come on! August 26th Thanks to two more donations, the building total is now over $2700!!! We are so close! C'mon guys, we can do it! August 23rd Even tropical storm Faye couldn't keep MHRR volunteers away from our Care Day! Despite the deluge we groomed several buns (enough to make a pillow!) and did nail trims and some socialization. Maple and Sally had an OK meeting (they'll get adopted together if they bond!) and Stella earned a new nickname from psycho Stella (from her cage aggressive tendencies) to sweet Stella from her calm nature today during her grooming session and even licking at the end! Also, congratulations to Zsa Zsa on her adoption today to a GREAT bun family, and their additional donation to the fund! Thanks so much! August 22nd With a big thanks to Anna S. and Denise L., we are pleased to announce that the building total is up to 2369.66! We are still inching forward, and appreciate everyone's generosity and support! If you haven't checked out the blog, do it soon! In other good news, Madonna finally came home from the vet today! After staying there a month and undergoing anesthesia 3 times, she was finally spayed and had her rear-end reconstructed to not hold poo anymore. After staying a month at the vet, surely going to the main house is a welcome break! August 21st Today we welcomed the mama bun Carrie and her 3 baby buns Elvis, Dolly, & Reba from Mississippi. We've also added our Bunny Building Blog to keep everyone updated on the building status! We're getting so close to purchasing the building that it's on all the volunteers' minds. Check out the blog to see the latest updates, the area it will be built, the hopeful layout and design, budget, and checklist! If you have any of the items we are looking at purchasing and are willing to donate (or know where to get them), please let us know! We've already cleared the area!  August 17th More congrats are in order - congrats to Julia and Clark on the birth of their baby girl Kenzie! We also have another "bun in the oven"... Sarah & Mike are expecting! August 13th Congrats to Elmer & Marshmallow (2) on their adoption today! August 12th We reached $2k for the bunny building!!! Thanks to Carol A. who sent us over the top of that big step. Thanks to the donations that have come in, and we are on our FINAL leg of getting the building! We are so excited! The momentum must keep going. In other great news, Pancakes got adopted today! Plus Elmer & Marshmallow will be heading to their new home this week. Hooray for all the good news! Sadly in the midst of our good news, we have some sad news. Adopted buns Hazel (adopted by volunteers Mary & Kaci Russell) and Blackjack, an elderly bun adopted last year, both passed away over the weekend. Our deepest sympathies to both families. August 10th We have had 2 successful Care Days since, VERY few adoptions sadly (that's summer for ya), and quite a number of new rabbits come in the last couple weeks. Their photos are up for the most part, but biographies are being written and posted often. You may have noticed the number of adoptions go down at the top of our homepage - this is because several of our former adopted rabbits have come back up for adoption for various reasons. Simon & Rio, Maggie, and Maple are back and looking for homes again. In better news, we have a new volunteer Katherine who has joined the chaos. :) We also are now just $12 shy of hitting $2,000 for our bunny building!! We need $3,000 to purchase the building, and then additional to hook up plumbing, electricity, and build shelving for the cages. I challenge everyone to donate just $20, or raise $50 via your friends and family. We will be setting up for another garage sale in mid-late September, which have proven to be our biggest fundraisers by far. Let's get the building in place by October, which is our busiest month for events, and have the bunnies moved in by Christmas! Everybun knows that they already have 2 front teeth, let's get them a better temporary "home for the holidays." ~ T-SHIRTS! ~ If you'd like to order the MHRR shirt to wear at our events, while running a MHRR errand, to promote the rescue, or just look plain cool (ha ha), order one at our cafepress shop! |
